Hosts' Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the reach of internet radio?

According to a January 2004 Arbitron study, "the audience for radio and video broadcasting over the internet has grown substantially in a very brief period of time."  51 million people have tuned into internet radio at some point during the past 30 days, and 30 million are regular weekly listeners.  42% of the internet audio audience listens to internet radio while shopping or researching a product or service online.

What are Global Talk Radio's demographics?

Click here to view GTR's demographics, as monitored independently by Quantcast.  (Keep in mind that traffic monitoring sites tend to only track about 10% of a website's true traffic... but they provide useful information about age, gender, education, income, etc.)

Global Talk Radio (GTR) began streaming in April, 2005 and surpassed the 20,000,000-hit mark in May 2009.  And our audience is soaring... up 167% in May 2009!  In fact, Global Talk Radio has earned the reputation of "the fastest growing internet talk radio station".

Most of our listeners are between 25-60 years old (fairly evenly distributed between the genders), with above-average education and above-average income/investments.  The majority of our listeners are currently in the United States and Canada, although we have reached listeners in 64 countries across Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and throughout North and South America.

Is internet radio as professional as AM/FM radio?

Yes - at least at Global Talk Radio, it is!  (Read our testimonials.)  When you host your show on our station, you are provided with a wide range of amenities, depending on your specific needs.  More specifically, we have the ability to:

  1. Let you host your show either in our studio (near Los Angeles) or remotely (via telephone)

  2. Offer listeners a toll-free 1-800 number to call into your show, plus a direct phone number for international callers

  3. Tie together a maximum of 4 telephone lines simultaneously, so that you can interact with guests and listeners.

  4. Play royalty-free bumper music at the beginning and end of each segment to give your show a professional sound.

  5. Record your program in MP3 format for on-demand streaming and listener downloads

  6. Track your show's performance with daily and weekly listener statistics

Why should I host with Global Talk Radio, instead of somebody else?

Simply put:  We believe our total package (low cost, extensive amenities, and the ability for your show to grow fast as our audience expands) is unbeatable!  We are large enough to offer you professional service, yet small enough to work with you individually.  A common complaint we hear from hosts on other networks is that costs are high, and they still end up doing all of the work themselves.  At Global Talk Radio, we regularly receive feedback from hosts, syndicators, guests and advertisers alike, thanking us for going far beyond their expectations to ensure complete satisfaction.

Can I accept listener calls during my show?

Yes, depending on your host package.  You can even speak with a remote guest and a listener call simultaneously.  Additionally, the "shy" listeners can send us an Instant Message, which will be forwarded to you during your show.

When do my archives appear on my Show Page?

The archives from your recorded show usually appear on your Show Page within 24-48 hours.

How long are my archives accessible?

Your archives will generally remain on your Show Page for about 3 months.  However, if you require the archives to remain available past that time, you can request special arrangements with the Station Manager.

How will my show be funded?

You (the host) are required to cover the cost of producing, storing and streaming your program.  However, there are several ways for you to recoup your investment, such as offering paid audio commercials, selling thumbnail/display ad space and working with other sponsors in the development of your talk show.

Why must hosts sponsor their own programs?

It takes up to 5 manhours to produce, program and promote a 1-hour program on our end, so the station incurs substantial costs in producing and marketing each show (including labor, programming, bandwidth, storage, rent, telephones, licenses and advertising.)Banner advertisements only cover a small fraction of these expenses, so in order to assure you of control over the content and structure of your program, the burden of the production cost is passed along to the host.  In return, the host receives exposure and promotion to our global audience, with the credibility of appearing on internet radio.

Compared to "bartered time" on conventional AM/FM stations... and even compared to other online radio stations... Global Talk Radio offers a relatively inexpensive and cost-effective way to start your own radio show:

  • Conventional AM/FM radio stations charge $1,000-$10,00 per month

  • Other online radio stations charge $250-$2,500 per month

  • Global Talk Radio currently produces some basic shows for FREE

  • Global Talk Radio charges only $495 per month for fully-featured "Professional" talk shows

What forms of payment are accepted?

Global Talk Radio accepts all four major credit cards:

Can everyone host their own show if they sponsor the station?

No.  We have strict guidelines as to the suitability and appropriateness of our programs.  We approach many of our prospective hosts after hearing of their work from other sources.  Others contact us, and if we approve, we extend an invitation for them to host their own show.  However, we have also turned down many hosts - even though they offered to sponsor the station - because they did not meet our qualification standards.
