Guest
Sponsorship:
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Why do we ask
guests to sponsor the station to appear on this program?
It takes about 7
hours to produce and engineer a 1-hour program, so the station incurs
substantial costs in production and marketing of each show and
its guests (including labor, programming, bandwidth, storage,
rent, telephones, licenses and advertising.) Banner
advertisements only cover a small fraction of these expenses,
and since audio commercials are infrequent on internet radio,
the burden of the production cost is passed along to the guest.
In return, the guest receives exposure and promotion to our
audience, and we regularly distribute internet press releases
announcing guest appearances on our programs.
Do guests
really chose their sponsorship amount?
Yes! First, our
intention is to make this particular program's success directly
dependent upon its popularity. Rather than arbitrarily
dictating what the sponsorship should be, we have chosen the laws
of supply and demand to determine that. Simply put, we let
the guests personally determine the value of their appearance on
our program. Moreover, since
this program features a wide range of guests from multi-national
corporations to individuals, one sponsorship rate is not right
for everyone. This method allows larger sponsors to
have the longer segments at the start of the program, while
allowing smaller contributors to still have a spot at a lesser cost.
How much
should I offer to sponsor?
Of course, this
is entirely up to you. Offer as little or as much as you
feel comfortable with (in even whole-dollar U.S. currency
amounts), but please understand that there are only a few
segments available in each show, so only the top sponsors will
ultimately appear
on the program. Also, bigger sponsorships generally receive better
placement within the program (i.e., toward the beginning).
However, guest appearances
are not "auctioned". We do not encourage you to compete
with other guests, and we do not make specific recommendations
of how much you should offer in order to appear on the program.
Instead, the sole purpose of the sponsorship is to help
cover the costs of producing and promoting the show and its
guests on our station and throughout the internet.
What
advantages are there to offering higher amounts?
Many!
First, the top sponsors will generally appear toward the beginning of
the program and may have longer interviews (up to 15
minutes in length). Second, top sponsors will (at GTR's
sole discretion) receive additional
free banner impressions on our website. Also, since there
is only room for a small number of guests on each show, smaller
sponsors may not be accepted due to time limitations.
Can I see what
others have offered?
No. Again,
this is not intended to be an auction.
Can I change
my sponsorship offer?
No. You may
only offer one sponsorship per guest appearance, unless we
advise you that your sponsorship was too small to guarantee a
spot on the program.
When will I be
charged?
You will only
be charged if your sponsorship is accepted. If your
sponsorship is rejected because it is too small,
you will not be charged anything. We will generally make
decisions on whether or not to accept sponsorships within 2 weeks of
their receipt, and you will receive an email either way
confirming whether your sponsorship was accepted or not.
Is sponsorship
required to appear as a guest?
No. You may
enter "0.00" as your sponsorship offer, "1234-1234-1234-1234" as your credit
card number, "00/00" as your expiration date and "000" as your
CVV2 security code. However, there will often be more
sponsors than there are guest spots available, so it is quite
possible that a $0 sponsorship will not be accepted.
Can everyone
appear as a guest if they sponsor the station?
No. We have
strict guidelines as to the suitability and appropriateness of
our guests. We approach many of our prospective guests after hearing
of their work from other sources. Others contact us,
and if we approve, we extend an invitation for them to appear on
our programs. However, we have also turned down many
guests - even though they offered to sponsor the station -
because they did not meet our qualification standards.
