2010 San Francisco Writers Conference Celebrates Seven Years of Helping Writers Become Published Authors

San Francisco, CA12/1/09If you can only go to one writers’ conference this year, it makes sense to attend one that will truly help you get published. The 2010 San Francisco Writers ConferenceFebruary 12-14, 2010 at the InterContinetal Mark Hopkins Hotelwill feature 100 literary agents, bestselling authors and editors from major publishing companies. It offers a stellar set of opportunities for networking and writing career advancement. www.SFWriters.org

Keynoters and bestselling authors for 2010 will include Jacquelyn Mitchard (Deep End of the Ocean), Steve Berry (The Charlemagne Pursuit, Dan Poynter (The Self-Publishing Manual)) and Susan Wiggs (Fireside). The presenters are impressive, but most attendees come to the San Francisco Writers Conference to pitch their work, find an agent and get published. Editors from Random House, Pocket Books/Simon & Schuster, St. Martin’s Press, Jossey-Bass (Wiley), Seal Press, Walker and Mira Books will be representing traditional publishing. There will be self-publishing workshops lead by Keith Ogorek (Author Solutions) and Diane Gedymin (Get Published!).

SFWC Directors Michael Larsen and Elizabeth Pomada, themselves literary agents and authors, have built a conference that works for writers. Attendees have access to fifty "how to" sessions & panels with experts such as Jane Friedman (Writer’s Digest). Speed Dating for Agents and Ask-a-Pro are opportunities for attendees to pitch their work directly to publishing professionals. Celebrity book signings and social gatherings add to the excitement of the event.

This will be the seventh annual San Francisco Writers Conference. The event has sold out EVERY year and regularly attracts attendees from almost every state and several foreign countries. "The secret is that just 300 attendees can attend the conference. Word has spread that this is an event where you get unequalled networking with major presenters and other attendees," says SFWC Marketing Director Barbara Santos.

The SFWC Writing Contest is another route to ultimately getting published and it is open to non-attendees. According to SFWC Contest Director Laurie McLean, many of the past winners have published their work using Author Solution packages they won (part of their prize) and several authors have been published by traditional publishers thanks to the exposure the contest offers.
